Jokasta: A puppet opera is a modern gothic fairytale about love, freedom, dreams and illusion. It is also a Brechtian story fusing puppetry, music and acting, took place in the church ruins of Abney Park Cemetery from 25 May – 3 June 2012, selling out every night.
The set and the stage are designed and made by Soroush Pourhashemi.
The story concerned an old woman, Katerina, who hated everything and everyone in the world with the exception of a puppet, Jokasta, that she was given as a child. She prays every night to be turned into a puppet, that she might spend the rest of her days in the company of the thing that she loves. One day, her wish is granted…
